Services of Lessons and Carols began in Truro, England in 1880 and was reintroduced at King’s College Cambridge in 1918. Now the service is broadcast around the world on Christmas Eve. This special service intertwines the story of Christ’s birth with hymns and special seasonal music.
As it is written in the prophet Isaiah, “See, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way; the voice of one crying out in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight,’” -Mark 1:1-2
Then they will see ‘the Son of Man coming in clouds’ with great power and glory. Then he will send out the angels, and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven. -Mark 13:26-27
God put this power to work in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the age to come. -Ephesians 1:20-21
